Whether you’ve been married for three decades or only dating for a couple years, there’s no denying the fun and intimacy of a vacation for just the two of you. Traveling with your significant other can be good for strengthening your relationship and exploring the world together.

This can do both of you a world of good as you get to go away from the daily routine and live in a romantic bubble of your own. Traveling couples find great joy and excitement in going away from home and the all-too-familiar lifestyle.

However, couples travel is not as easy as it seems, as it needs proper prior planning. In fact, vacationing couples sometimes find that traveling together can be stressful. But is doesn’t have to be that way.

Couples Travel

In this post, we share 7 tips for traveling couples to make the most out of their travel. Honestly, I wish had been smart enough to use these tips for myself during the multiple trips that my wife and I have taken over the years. But I’m now prepared for our upcoming travel opportunities. As such, I made her a promise that ‘better is coming.’

So, I’ve put together some pieces of advice for vacationing couples to help make sure that your trip is a romantic adventure instead of a stressful ordeal.

1) Discuss What You Seek From The Travel Before Leaving

Two different individuals, even as couples, have different personalities and hence different likes and dislikes. You might want to adventurous with all the thrilling sports like paragliding and scuba diving, but your partner might be more interested in lazing around on the beach. So, it is better to sit down and discuss what you want from your travel and how you are going to achieve that as a couple.

2) Plan Out A Thorough Budget And Stick To It

It is quite easy to get overly-indulgent and spend while you are on a vacation. Managing your finances might not be totally sexy, but it’s critical to the success of both your vacation and your relationship. So, things might just go out of hand and result in inconvenience and uncalled for quarrels. To avoid this, plan a budget and discuss all of its different aspects while you are planning a trip at home.

It’s important that you know how much you can afford to spend on your vacation rental, airfare, and so on. Going too far over your budget could force you to cut your fun vacation short if you run out of money, which would be a disappointment for both you and your partner. Therefore, managing your money really is quite important.

You can even make divisions of who’ll pay for what or if you will each pay for what each buys. Prior budget setting saves a lot of trouble.

That being said, don’t be too strict or harsh about it with your partner. Hey, nobody wants to get into a fight about money during their vacation!

3)  Do Activities Together

Staying with each other 24/7 might overwhelm you, so you need to give breaks to each other. You can go on a shopping spree of a couple of hours or take a long lonely walk through the city to take your lone time. This way you will get to miss each other for a while and the trip will become more rewarding.

We all enjoy a little solitude occasionally and it’s definitely important to give your loved one their personal space when they need it.

But wait a minute! The whole point of a couples’ vacation is to spend time with your partner, right? So, make sure you don’t wander off and leave them alone in your hotel room or vacation rental for the entire trip.

Also, try to find something to do that both of you will enjoy, whether that’s visiting swimming with dolphins or going on a nature hike. Your vacation should be a special time for the two of you, to create new memories that you can look back on with fondness.

4)  Keep Trying New Foods

Exploring new cuisines together can be fun and exciting for traveling couples. So, when you go out for traveling, eat as much as you can and try everything that you can while you are on the go. After all, food is the ultimate romance booster!

Additionally, we suggest that you always have a snack with you. This may seem like a silly piece of advice, but consider this: you know how you (and most people) get irritable when you’re hungry?

Well, we’re willing to bet that your partner probably does, too, and that sometimes this hunger-induced irritation can lead to overblown fights about the smallest things (don’t worry, it happens to all of us).

And since it’s easy to get sidetracked while on vacation and skip meals, it’s a good idea to have an energy bar or fruit with you to munch on.

Yes, simple but helps to avoid unnecessary (and often pointless) fights. It’s also possible to get literally lost while on a trip, so having some form of sustenance with you is a pragmatic decision as well, for health and safety reasons.

5)  Vacationing Couples Compromise And Pace Themselves

Not all decisions will be easy to make. Sometimes you’ll disagree with your partner on certain things. However, it’s important to be able to communicate your desires with each other and come to a compromise.

Learning how to compromise can help with everything from picking a vacation rental to deciding which beach to hang out at. Also, if the goal of your trip is to make your partner happy, do whatever it takes to reach a happy medium.

Not only will they be happier for it, but you will also because you’ve brought a smile to their face!

Now, while wanting to explore and enjoy new experiences is totally normal, it’s important to not rush yourselves or stuff too many activities into one day.

Running yourselves ragged trying to do too much will leave you both exhausted and cantankerous since it’s hard to be happy when you’re tired. Hence, appreciate, get to know each other’s limits and don’t overexert yourselves.

6)  Take A Bunch Of Pictures – But Don’t Go Overboard

Capturing photos of your fun vacation is totally normal and gives you something to do, no matter where you are.  This way you can both save your most precious moments together forever and you can always go back to them. You can even show these pictures to your kids when you tell them the stories of your time together.

But try not to get too crazy with it.

Nothing ruins a quiet romantic moment quite like someone scrambling for their phone to take a selfie. So, please be aware of which moments are appropriate for taking photos and which ones are not.

It’s important to be present in the moment with your partner, not focused on taking the perfect picture. Also, some people go on vacations to get away from the constant presence of technology; therefore, try to be mindful of your partner’s preferences where things like this are concerned.

7)  Vacationing Couples Have Fun

This may seem like an obvious tip, but we think it’s important to mention. Some couples go on vacations but end up miserable the entire time because they’re taking things too seriously and stressing over every detail.

So, c’mon, let your hair down. Do not go all bossy or stubborn when you are a traveling couples as it might ruin all the fun. Letting your hair down and going easy on each other will let you be playful and carefree for a while. This will make travel more fun and enjoyable.

Consider taking an adventurous ride or try a new sport. But do something that you haven’t done together earlier. This will bring a renewed freshness and thrill in your life as a couple.

And while planning is important, it’s more important to remember that you’re on a vacation, which is supposed to be fun.  Yet, if you’re having trouble lightening up, just remind yourself of this: you’re spending time with the person you love the most in the world.

The two of you are having an adventure all your own and creating special memories that only the two of you will share.

So, these are the top 7 tips for traveling couples to make the most out of their travel experience with memories and a great journey. As such, what’s not to enjoy?
