Congratulations! So, your family’s just about ready for their Exuma vacation. Good job! You’ve figured out where to stay, where to dine and what to do while you’re in paradise. But you’re stumped about what to pack. The key to any successful vacation comes down to two things- planning and packing.
You planned your beach vacation to this tropical island for its turquoise warm waters and friendly locals. A trip to the Bahamas, in general, is mainly for the sun, sand and sea. You are looking forward to enjoying the laid-back lifestyle and a variety of water sports. Hence, this should be your guide when you pack clothes and accessories.
What to Pack for Your Exuma Vacation
If you’re a first-time visitor to the Bahamas Out Islands, here are our suggestions for approaching that suitcase without any doubt.
Since Exuma has a laid-back vibe, you can put on casual wear anywhere you are. It is best if you can pack sundresses, tank tops, shorts, sandals, and t-shirts during your trip here. It is best to go for linen and cotton wear rather than denim and leather wear. You should also take along transitional clothing so that you can easily change your look easily.
Exuma has an uneven terrain – you’ll be strolling sand beaches, rocky shores, planked decks, roughly paved roads, and maybe a bush path or two. So, it’s wise to pack comfortable footwear, sandals, flip-flops or any other footwear that can get wet and dry easily.
Don’t forget to pack swimwear. You’re not going to be able to resist the blue-green water so make sure you have multiple bathing suits. It’s also important to keep the time of year in mind. While Exuma is always pleasantly hot, during certain seasons there can be cool breezes, especially at night. So, check ahead and maybe bring a light jacket for nighttime.
The Tropic of Cancer passes through Exuma, so the tropical sun here is quite hot. Air temperatures vary from 70 degrees in January to 90 degrees in August with only 20 inches of rain per year. Therefore, you should expect warm and humid weather. And since you will be exploring the island under the sun, make sure you bring along your sunscreen.
Accessories are just as important as the clothing. For example, don’t forget to take along your sunglasses and hats or caps so as to keep the sun off you. You can also visit the Straw Market for great hats and t-shirts, several boutiques for resort fashions, markets with sunscreen and, yes, aloe sunburn lotion should you need it!
This family vacation is all about creating and capturing the memories while in Exuma and also the magnificent island sceneries. It is best to come along with a camera or make use of your phone. Although you may not be able to use phone service and Wi-Fi in some parts of the island, you will get good reception around Georgetown and the resorts.
The Bahamas uses North American 120 A/C power, so depending on where you’re coming from, you may need to pack an adapter. So, double-check your luggage for the essentials before you leave because there are quite few electronic stores that can be found in Exuma. And those tech stores that can be found are not usually well stocked.
There are also some other items that you will need on your Exuma vacation. You should ensure you take along your passports, travel/flight documents, a driver’s license and directions to your island accommodation.
Check your passport has at least 6 months before expiry from the date you plan to leave the Bahamas, or you could be denied entry. You should also pack an adequate supply of regular medications that you need as well as some emergency first aid items. Do ensure the medicines are in their original packaging and you are with a copy of your prescription in cases where you are questioned.
You should pack your toiletries in your carry-on luggage and exclude liquids like mouthwash and sharp objects. Remember to pack some swimwear, shorts, and some underwear in your carry-on luggage. You’ll be happy you did so in case your checked-in luggage is delayed.
Of course, kids will want to bring a few of their favorite toys, but Funntripps guests have access to the full array of board & electronic games. We suspect though, that you’ll be easily persuaded to explore outdoor adventures including paddle boats, feeding the stingrays on Stocking Island, and doing so much else that you won’t need much “stuff” to keep them entertained.
Enjoy the Good Life!
Whatever you do, don’t stress about the packing! You won’t need much to enjoy your Exuma vacation. Everything required for the good life is right here. Now you’re all set to enjoy your Bahamian vacation. All that’s missing is you!
Are You Visiting Exuma To Go Swimming With The Pigs?
Undoubtedly, the best way to experience the pigs is to see them in person. Pig Island is accessible only by boat, and most vessels take 10 to 20 people at a time.
